The Candlestick and Whitehaven Harbour

On a recent visit to Whitehaven we explored the area around a local landmark. The Candlestick is a reminder of Whitehaven’s coal-mining past. It was built as a ventilation shaft for Wellington pit. The winter sunshine was illuminating it. It was a windy day and the waves were breaking against the harbour wall.

There is a public house named after it in the town. A picture of that appeared on this blog previously.
