V is for Viola

This is my post for the letter V in the Blogging from A to Z in April Challenge.  My theme is plants.

The viola family includes pansies and violets. Pansies are some of my favourite flowers. They are cheerful and almost seem to have faces.  According to William Shakespeare

Pansies are for thoughts.

I don’t know a great deal about the “language” of flowers, but William Shakespeare evidently did.

Pansies are able to flower at most times in the year, depending on when the seeds are planted. We find they grow best in pots, rather than having to compete with the perennials we grow in the flowerbeds.
In case you are interested in musical instruments a viola (pronounced differently) is a larger instrument than a violin. My A to Z theme in 2014 was musical instruments.

Just a thought!

There is also a character in a play  (Twelfth Night) by Shakespeare with the name Viola.

There are very short posts on Sue’s Trifles for the A to Z in April Challenge.
